I wanted to write a song about my grandfather's experiences in North Africa and Italy during the Second World War, but I wanted it to be ambiguous as to whether this was from the perspective of a British or German soldier, hence, the name of the song which reflects the British and German names for a key battle.
lyrics
These brothers in arms take a seat at the opera
In the dress or the Gods, doesn't matter to them
These brothers in arms, thrown together by fortune
These brothers in arms, These brothers in arms, These brothers in arms
My war was good war
My war was the best war, that you'll find
Love
These brothers in arms, learning some of the lingo
These brothers in arms, they left Rommel behind
These brothers in arms, hangin' round with Il Duce
These brothers in arms, These brothers in arms, Brothers in arms?
These boys are the best boys
These boys are the best boys that you'll find
Love
Boys
These brothers in arms, can they call it real coffee?
These brothers in arms doing what they must do
These brothers in arms, chewing on the last toffee
These brothers in arms
My war was good war
My war was the best war, that you'll find
These boys are the best boys
These boys are the best boys that you'll find
This love
These boys
This love drives a coach and horses through
This love
